This profusion of music together with the crowds of noisy children in
the upper halls were too much for our nerves,  and we layed [sic] awake,
without smiling-   but this rush and excitement, music and
promenading, or rather jostling each other back and forth in the
halle,   seems to please many people, as the hotel is con-
stantly crowded with the nobility of America and Europe.

3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0 After enquiring at a few hotels which were “all full on
the 1st  and 2nd  floors”  I tried the “Hotel de l’Ecu de Genève” lower
down upon the
River and had
the good luck
to find just
what we wanted,
a family having
just vacated a
little parlor with
bedroom on each
side, corner    [-Rousseaus Island-Geneva-Hotel de l’ Ecu-]
room facing up the principal street towards the lake, also across
the River to the hansome [sic] Hotels and other buildings fronting upon the
water.    Our Hotel is the corner building just below the second
long bridge which leads across to the “Grand Quay”.         These
two Quays fronting upon each side of the river are lined with the
finest buildings in the city,  modern architecture, whereas behind
each, extends the old town, into the plain or valley- more ancient
crooked streets +c,   still there is no part of Geneva where the
