free happy Switzerland
Everything wears a
more enterprising aspect
than anything in Germany
or France-
Here we see the country        [-Zurich-]
well covered with neat farmhouses,  and for the first time in
Europe we find good shingle roofs, instead of the universal dull
red tiles of France and Germany.

quarter tunnel,  the city at once bursts upon our view close
at hand, spreading along the shores of lake Zurich and up the
hillsides that surrounds it,     while the beautiful lake
hemmed in on all sides by highlands, or low mountains, stretches
out beyond winding out sight [sic] more like a wide river than a lake.

in any country,  an immense building, in cut stone resembling granite
of fine architectural proportions with extensive wings for offices-
