any hesitation as to appearances,
but how antique and uninviting for
a city having 62,000 population.
The porter tells me it is 300 years
old and I am inclined to believe
Him-   These “porters” at European
Hotels are of more importance than
those in America.   They dress in
neat uniform, have an office at the
entrance, attend to the arrivals
and departures of carriages, people    [-Bavarian Hotel-]
packages +c and are ready to give any amount of information.

3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0 30th   The day has been rainy and cold, the 13th  day of steady
rain.            We find Mr. DH (or N) Barney and family at this Hotel
from Frankfurt, detained by his sickness,  he tells of Hombourg
being full of wounded, but no travellers-
We disliked Prague because it was so old and disagreably
mixed,    but we feel much interested in this place, because
it is so very old and retains its ancient appearance without
change.               We drove to the old castle in the edge
of the city on one of the surrounding hills to obtain a comprehensive
view   but were soon driven under shelter by the rain.   An old
woman came out and showed us into an old room beside us, to
see the old well, 335ft deep.   She threw in a cup full of water
