2 Leave a comment on paragraph 2 0 America, we arose at the early hour of 430 A.M. Breakfasted
and left on the 640 train, but ^not^ before we had sent all the way
back to our for the “bandbox”-
For the first fifty miles we pass through a country almost
as level as a western prairie- The next fifty miles, we
have hills and beautiful undulating farms, abounding in char-
ming valleys- We are again in the land of
shingle-roofs. Our railway is comparatively new, the stations
are new and economical, but our train is the “fast” one and
we fly through the smaller villages without stopping.
We crossed the “Danube” at Ingolstadt, the “Altmûhl at Dollen-
stein. A little later the “Main”, which we followed down
to Wurzburg bristling with steeples, above which stands
a large square modern castle on a promentory [sic] overlooking the
30 minutes for soup. Our car is the only one which
goes through undisturbed.
Upon this whole route there are no important cities.
Hanau near Frankfort is one of the largest.
At 5 1/2 P.M. we are in Frankfort. Soon reach the
Hotel de Russie and hoping that our Telegram has made good
arrangement for us, we follow the waiters up to the roof where
we are shown into two rooms large enough for Ball-rooms.
The front room is frescoed with suffocatingly heavy figures
trying to illustrated the story of Cupid and Psyche, and
the abundant furniture looks as though the room might be
the receptacle of odd pieces- four hansome writing desks.
