2 Leave a comment on paragraph 2 0 of statuary in sight, also too strange looking columns taken from the ancient temple of Venus and Roma, each one decorated with six excrescences on the shafts called ships prows “Rostrae” from which the rostrum or speakers stand derived its name- farther up, zig-zag ing up a wide easy grade, we pass before a high wall of masonry in the centre of which is a covered porch with hansome double stairways leading to it where people step up for a view who do not feel able to ascend to the promenade overhead. Below this porch are terraces held up by hansome masonry, some of it covered with sculpture in relief, with neat shrubbery, great century plants, fountains, +c on either hand, we reach the summit to find a hansome park of twenty or thirty acres neatly laid out in wide drives and walks around and through it, filled in which choice shrubbery- In the centre stands a high Egyptian obelisk which Hadrian erected to the memory of Antinous in Egypt.
