3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0 The interior has very much the appearance of the generality of European cathedrals, high gothic arched ceilings supported by rows of immense fluted columns. These columns however, were a little varied by having each one covered with statuary for 30 or 40 ft up from the floor. The original designs have been obliterated by the many renewals and additions still the whole interior has an exceedingly dark, dingy, and chilling aspect.

4 Leave a comment on paragraph 4 0 Around one of the columns in the nave winds the stairway up to the pulpit, above which hang an umbrella shaped cover, the whole of the stone, elaborately carved in the style of the middle ages.

5 Leave a comment on paragraph 5 0 The wide stair rail instead of being smooth on its upper surface, is ornamented with a row of toads, lizzards [sic], +c large as ones fist, in close single file head^d^ upwards.
