our road,  and long icicles are
pendant from the rocks beside the
road.     The ^deep^ snow and glaciers   [ -Frasinone [sic] Cascade-]
appear to be only a few minutes walk away, yet they are quite far
away-     A half mile more of level road beyond the Hospice
and we stop to put the log or sleigh under a hind wheel for our
descent which we now make at a rapid pace in a a light snow
xxxx storm,   still the weather is much milder than we had expected
in fact we are quite comfortable without much exertion-     We had
been told that it would not be safe to attempt the pass after the
20th, but that means for ladies comfort, as the diligence  runs quite
regularly all winter     some times being delayed a day or two to
repair the effects of avalanches of rock, earth, ice, snow +c
