Montanvert the attendant (1 franc) fired a small cannon across the “Mer
de glace”, whose report rolled and rumbled diminishing and increasing
like distant thunder for nearly a quarter of a minute, perhaps more-

gendarme fills the balance of my side, while a neatly dressed German
woman with babe thrusts herself and traps into the balance of Jeps side seat,
baby chair, pillow, basket, loaf of Bread,  and just as we start, her little curly
black Dog is thrust in through the window, whose troubled contortions remind
us of Flees.      All are talkative, social.   The dear little handsome
babe with its white ruffled cap and artificial flowers, so good and smiling,
is the centre of attraction but how feew [sic] mothers understand their feelings
