proud.        To the right of the house upon the terrace, a few rods
away is the long beech arbor trained and trimmed like an Evergreen
arbor with windows cut through the foliage at frequent intervals looking
over the valley   and there was the favorite walk of Voltaire.
Back to Geneva over the dusty highway just in time for table d’hote 5 1/2.

showing of mountain excursions for which Switzerland is so famous
Anna insists that I shall visit Chamounix  notwithstanding her
inability to endure the fatigue.     Consequently at 7 1/2 A.M.
Jep and I “flying light” were aboard the Chamounix diligence.    I
had, two days before, selected “Nos 1 & 3 first banquet” on top, where we
could enjoy a good
view of the passing

for myself 36 francs, and 20 francs more for Jep.      There
are four banquets, each carrying four passengers, altogether room
for 16 on top.   Also a coupé in front, underneath for four more,
behind which is a large box or storehouse for baggage and freight.
As the business has demonstrated that very few people are willing
to ride inside.       Being rather late in the season there were
only two below and three above, all of whom proved to be local
passengers, not tourists.        The Driver cracks his long
lash and our five horses start off upon the gallop,  three Horses
leading and two following.
