We have also had many      [-Polytechnical School-]
pleasant carriage ridges though the city, antique, crooked streets but clean
and busy,  upon the hights [sic] past the Polytechnic school and onto Mt.
Weid[ Mt. Waid ] where we obtain a charming view.    The hill sides abound in
luxurient orchards and vineyards, all loaded with fruit,  while in
the background rises the snowclad alps.

3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0 This Polytechnical school is an immense affair where one can learn
almost anything desired, Law, Medicine, Theology, languages, science,
Belle-lettres +c.   All railway engineers must have its certificate
before serving,  and its certificate is highly respected throughout Europe
in every kind of business.    Students from all parts of the world,
now nine from America.  It is a federal school, the only one in
Switzerland that is kept up by the Govt.

city and suberbs 45000.   There are 10.000 silk looms and
fully 15000 girls employed weaving silk (by^hand^).  Also a great deal of
cotton manufactured here b y machinery-    The most common
