clouds,     and we watch their development with much interest,
looming up so majestically, until we are near enough to see the
snow upon their peaks-    And here again we enter another
series of charming valleys,   thickly inhabited, highly cultivated,
an appearance of more enterprise,   picturesque as an ornamental
garden.      Everywhere the farmers are scattering their
Hay to dry, men, women and children, on this bright sunny
day, the first dry day in two weeks-

class of landscapes, our first mountain scenery, and all eyes are
active-    As we ascend the mountain, charming meadow valleys
stretch out far below us.        cultivated mountain sides covered
with meadows, cottages and groves

Pass by the hansome bronze monument of Maximillian 2nd  and
board the small steamer, which at 12 ½ oclock carries us out
into the lake between the lighthouse and a high granite pedestal
supporting a colossal white Lion reclining upon his hindquarters,
but erect upon his forelegs-    Strike out, and down, the lake
reaching the railway station of Romanshom at 2 P.M. notwith-
standing that we have been towing a large barge loaded with x six
full freight cars-        Here again the Revenue
