a palce where the finest point lace shawls could be bought aston-
ishingly cheap.    The wholesale house of Joh.  Joh Wechselmann
agents for the manufacturies in Silesia, where 6000 girls are
employed,  the real headquarters for laces made for the N.Y.
Brussels and European markets,  having Paris orders on hand
that cannot be shipped in consequence of the war.
We had felt disappointed in our failure to reach Brussels, as
we (the ladies) would fail to reach the great lace metropolis,
but here was a better chance,  cheaper than Brussels,
the real headquarters,    so the delay was cheerfully decided upon

anxious ladies sallied forth, in the storm which has been
irregularly breaking out for the past two days,   to said
office, opposite the “New church”.     I don’t know why it is
called the  New church because it looks as though it had been
built many years and had the entire dome now surrounded
with weather stained scaffolding,   but architecturally, it is
the finest style of any church I have ever seen here.

into an arched passage to the rear court,  enquire of a
porter which of the several doors we shall enter.   A small
door is indicated,  and sure enough, there is the address given
us, in letters less than two inches high.   No door Knob, so
we ring the bell and are admitted into a back room
lined with shelves filled with pasteboard boxes, containing thousands
of dollars of the finest laces in the world.-        What a singularly
