¶ 3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0 They all wear blue coats, brass buttons, red collar, glazed hat, and look so near alike that its difficult to identify your driver of yesterday- They have whips with lashes 4 to 6ft long, which they crack very loudly and frequently on both the up and down stroke. The cracks from the cabstand in front of our last weeks quarters were quite deafening. It is extremely noticeable. Walking along the sidewalk it is quite common to be startled by a crack very near your head, loud as a large firecracker.

Mr. Hughes came over with us in the “Ville de Paris”, and here we find his family. Mrs. Hughes, daughter, and governess. They have been our most intimate friends and assisted us to become acquainted with others. Her daughter about the age of Alice has been Alices [sic] most intimate friend.
