2 Leave a comment on paragraph 2 0 The Lake of Lugano is about 200 ft higher than Como, and the ups and downs of our road carried us up several hundred feet higher, when suddenly upon emerging from a grove, around a prominence, the lake of Como bursts upon our view nearly a thousand feet below us, and the steep descent of the unwinding road for the two miles necessary to reach the village of Menaggio at the waters edge below us,   thrilled me with the magnificence of the landscape beyond anything yet experienced.
